Furaha Fridays

In October 2011, St. Alban's Church entered into a partnership with Wesley United Methodist Church in East Waco to host their children’s Christian Education program, "Furaha Fridays" (Furaha is a Swahli word for “joyful”). Every Friday evening, a van from Wesley picks up about 30 children in Waco and brings them to St. Alban’s. Teams of people from St. Alban's serve dinner to the children and the Rev. Valda Combs, the pastor at Wesley, leads the children in a Christian education program using music, art, and activities. For some of these children, this program is a window of hope out of the cycle of poverty. Our St. Alban’s families with children are invited to participate in the program, as well.

Teams of volunteers from St. Alban's will rotate on a weekly basis to provide dinner and clean up afterwards. Each team will serve once a month, and on months with five Fridays the teams will rotate to cover the final Friday. These teams of volunteers from St. Alban's may provide dinner out of their own generosity, or they may ask the church to assist them with the cost of groceries.

Dinner is served at 6:00 PM on Friday and cleaning up will be done by 8:30 PM.  Teams are encouraged to share the responsibilites of shopping, cooking, and cleaning.
