Holy Week & Easter

PALM SUNDAY
April 9
Services at 7:30, 9, and 11:15 AM

This day commemorates the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem, a week before his crucifixion. It is a service both joyful and somber, and features reading of the passion. We begin with the Liturgy of the Palms. At both 9:00 and 11:15 AM, our service begins outside in the courtyard.

TENEBRAE SERVICE
April 12
Service at 7:30 PM

Tenebrae, Latin for shadows or darkness, is an ancient service of the Church consisting of a sequence of scripture, and songs, while candles are progressively extinguished. Hosted by the Episcopal College Ministry of Waco.

MAUNDY THURSDAY
April 13
Service at 7:00 PM

This powerful service commemorates the events of last night of Jesus’ earthly ministry, from the Last Supper, to his prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, to his arrest. The name for this service comes from the Latin “maundatum,” meaning command. It is a reference to the words of Christ at the Last Supper when he said, “A new commandment I give you: love one another” (John 13:34). The service features Holy Communion and the stripping of the altar.

Nursery: Provided for ages 0-4.

GOOD FRIDAY
April 14
Services at noon and 7 PM

We offer two services on this day, at noon and 7:00 PM. Both commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Both services are at St. Alban’s and include the Good Friday liturgy from the BCP. The noon service features a homily from our rector, with organ and congregational singing. The 7:00 PM service is a combined effort of the Episcopal Churches of Waco: Holy Spirit, St. Paul’s and St. Alban's. It features a combined choir from all three parishes, and brief homilies from each rector.

Nursery: Provided at the 7:00 PM service for ages 0-4.
