St. Alban’s Children’s Ministry provides a fun, loving, and safe environment where children are formed in the Christian faith through the Bible and play-based activities. We teach children: God loves you, we love you, and the church loves you!
Children from Pre-K to 6th grade participate in Sunday School at 10:15 AM. Nursery is available to ages 0-3 yrs. Every class is lead by a committed team of volunteers who spend the year in Sunday School facilitating lessons and building relationships with our children.
Children enter into parables, silence, sacred stories and liturgy in order to discover God, and the world around them. Godly Play assumes that children have experienced the mystery God’s presence in their lives, but lack the language, permission and understanding to express and enjoy that in our culture. The teachers tell stories and ask “I wonder…” questions meant to guide the children on their spiritual journey and help them fall more deeply in love with God. During the 9:00, 9:10 and 11:15 AM services, children ages 4-9 are invited to participate in Children’s Chapel, an age-appropriate worship service that takes place in The Crèche. After the second scripture reading, the Priest will invite all children forward for a blessing before they are dismissed for Children’s Chapel. (If you’re new or your children are nervous, parents are welcome to accompany their children if desired.) This allows parents and caregivers the chance to listen to the sermon while their children receive instruction at their own level. Children will return during the Passing of the Peace, right before Communion.
Meets monthly, and is a precursor to building community for youth, meant for kids in 3rd-5th grade. Utilizing the very best of the Montessori method, Godly Talk students step into new and complex sacred stories, take on responsibilities serving God and the Church, and build Christian community. Teachers guide students from wondering questions into open-ended discussions. In this class, students learn through games, in wonder, and from one another. This age group also enjoys two activities per month on Sunday evenings: one fun event and one service project. This group helps the children build friendships which will sustain them into their adolescence.
We have other wonderful events for children throughout the year: our St. Alban’s Day celebration, a family event in the Fall, our Easter Egg hunt, and more. These events are listed in our Children’s Ministry emails, our churchwide weekly email, and our worship bulletins.

Every member of our staff and vestry, and all staff and volunteers who work with youth and children, are certified by the Episcopal Diocese of Texas’ Safeguarding God’s Children program. This includes a background check, references, abuse prevention & awareness training, and policies surrounding interactions with children and reporting procedures.
